This is my first Frahm jacket, bought a year ago (March 2021) and received in Sept 2021. I've waited this long to write a review because I wanted to see if the jacket lived up to the reputation and, OK, partly due to some procrastination, but mainly to test the jacket. Happily, I can confirm it does live up to expectation.
The fit is great, I can layer enough for cold weather or wear over a t-shirt for warmer days, which also means I'll wear this jacket for more of the year than a Ventile or Parka (not that that has stopped me ordering the latter...)
After dutifully slipping down a flight of steps, I not only got the jacket filthy, I cut my arm leaving me convinced I'd torn the sleeve but on close inspection I couldn't find a scratch, so it's tough. I then waited with trepidation as I put the jacket in the washing machine for the first time and can report it came out as good as new.
OK, it's not waterproof, I got wet patches on the shoulders of my jumper after 7 mins in constant rain, but it's not advertised as such and why I await the imminent arrival of the Waterproof Utility Field version in time for spring and summer. All in all, very pleased, great job Frahm!
I cruised the website for ages before finally taking the plunge and ordering my first jacket. What held me back was stressing about getting the perfect size and fit on a pre-order. My jacket is superb - every bit as good as advertised. It's stylish but hard wearing and has loads of excellent features - I wear it every day. It's so good that if it were a slightly darker shade of blue, I would probably never need to buy another jacket. What I've also realised subsequently when buying a jumper is that you shouldn't stress about the sizing, The guidance is very clear but if like me you fall between sizes, the materials and tailoring are so good that either size will fit extremely well.
I waited with great anticipation for my Original Utility Field Jacket and so was so disappointed when it arrived - great quality as expected but unusually, based on all other reviews, the arms were too short. Argh! I had to return it. Online chat with the team agreed that I was an 'obvious' medium (which I'd ordered) at 6'2", 39" chest, but the tailored fit left the arm length lacking for me . Roll on a few weeks and I noticed other returns and engaged again with Leonie via the online chat. She very helpfully measured and advised of the arm length differences from medium to large and tall large (2cm and 5cm, I recall) and that there was a tall large in the blue which might be worth me trying. I did, and it's hardly been off my back since! Serendipity I think, as I actually prefer the blue (more French than Navy blue?) to my original red order. The fit is now (of course) roomy around the chest but the arm length is great and layering not a problem. As many others, I am now eying the range and trying to justify another jacket purchase!
Having moved too slowly to secure a 2021 pre order, I was desperate to get my hands on a Frahm jacket. The customer service was excellent and when some cancellations popped up they were really helpful. The jacket itself is just stunning with quality in every detail. I will definitely be investing in another Frahm jacket soon.
Nice fit, true to size. Lovely detailing.
