Ventile Thermal Field Jacket 2022: Pre Order

Size Guide
Size & Fit Guide

Our customers rave about our fit, check out the reviews.

FRAHM jackets are cut for real men's bodies and action. We've subtly altered classic tailoring for more movement, for real life. Our jackets do not have a restrictive teenage 'fashion' cut.

HOW TO FIT YOURSELF

Size by your actual body measurements, not copying your size in another brand. Fit can vary wildly between brands and their size may not be ours.

HEIGHT: This is the easy one – measure yourself from the top of your head to your heel. (Sometimes easier to do against a wall we find.)

CHEST: To find out your chest size, take a tape measure and wrap it under your armpits at the fullest part of your chest.

ARM: Measure from the shoulder seam to the bony bit on your wrist (yes, that is the biological term).

measurement guide

Next, compare your measurements with our size chart below to see which Frahm jacket is right for you. Our jumpers are also sized in the same way.

size chart

If you can't measure your chest circumference, the best guide to size is your best fitting existing jacket or suit jacket. Then Live Chat us and we can advise what your size is.

"Tall" sizes are for very tall men, offering exactly the same jacket with significantly longer arms and torso. Don't buy one if you're above average - our standard sizes will fit.

If you have shorter arms, we will happily have your sleeves altered for you when possible (most of the time it is). Please Live Chat or email us to discuss.

Nick's Design Notes

Nick’s Design Notes:  I wanted to make the best thermal jacket in the world, in both style, detail & performance. My dream design. That means it needs to be waterproof, smart and quiet. So I used the best natural materials and tailored military design.

READ DESIGN DETAIL & THERMAL JACKETS COMPARISON BLOG

The FRAHM Ventile Thermal Field Jacket is the best of our best. Ventile, a British military classic fabric used in pilot submersion suits is the outer, with a beautiful temperature-regulating wool lining. These are nature’s performance materials. We’ve added a highly efficient layer of recycled polyester insulation to the sandwich of wool and waterproof cotton, which dries fast and means the jacket is machine washable.

We’ve used super tough YKK Aquaguard waterproof zips at the front, cuffs and hips, for adjustability and maximum comfort. As with our fabled Utility Field Jacket, there’s a lot of heavyweight storage - the cargo pockets are actually even bigger. The waist is cord adjustable and there’s more comfort on articulated pleating and an ‘action back’ for full range of movement in freezing temperatures.

Upgrades for 2022: Snaps now Cobrax B:Lock, considered the best in world, used by special forces. We're adding a limited edition embroidered label to our designs, detailing which edition you own and proving its authenticity.

Use in cold to sub zero weather, in high winds, snow or heavy rain. With a single layer the temperature range is 0c to +12c, or down to -6c with mid-layers. The cut is tailored, but the fit is forgiving and can accommodate a thick jumper.

Almost, almost perfect!

So I have a thing for Ventile jackets going back to my Army days - it’s the perfect highly weather resistant (but not 100% waterproof - unless double layered) material option that keeps you dry in 90% of wet weather conditions. It’s also quiet and soft. I’ve consequently been on the search for the Holy Grail of Jackets for years, and I think this is the best Ventile jacket I’ve found yet by a country mile. Wonderfully tailored and constructed, warm but not overly hot, and just looks and feels both different and clearly a high class garment. Love the side zips idea, and the Blaze Orange colour is both gorgeous and contrasts well with the grey lining. Chapeau Frahm! The attention to detail, quality of fittings and array of features are outstanding.

What would I change? Just a few really minor ideas - nothing nuclear. I’d make the main zip a 2 way zip. I’d probably swap out the cuff zips for old fashioned stud fastenings so that you could make the current cuff fit a little tighter if you wanted to; I don’t think the current cuff zip function adds much technical advantage, and the lower sleeve feels slightly looser than I prefer on cold days. I’d maybe consider ditching the current external breast pocket designs for 2 vertical zip/side entry pockets, although I know the current design has an old fashioned M65 jacket vibe which I do also really like. I’d probably have some form of vent holes/zips under the armpits to aid heat dumping. Finally I would replace the current inside bottom right pocket design with a mesh/elasticated one, and furthermore add one to the inside left hand side too - the current pocket design isn’t really that functional IMHO.

All those are very minor, personal preferences but they don’t detract from the headline - this is a wonderful, wonderful jacket. Add in the rest of the Frahm ethos, culture and relatability (for me as a 54 yr old 🇬🇧 bloke in 🇺🇸 enjoying seasons perfect for Frahm gear!) then this jacket really is right up there. Great work Nick and team! 🔥🔥👍👍

Worth the wait

It seems an age from pre-order to delivery, but good things come to those who wait. This is my second Frahm, I took the plunge after getting a Harrington in ’the archive’. This Ventile Thermal fits like it was tailored to me, is super warm and for some inexplicable reason makes me feel calm when I put it on! I love it.
