Waterproof Trench Coat 2020

Size Guide
Size & Fit Guide

Our customers rave about our fit, check out the reviews.

FRAHM jackets are cut for real men's bodies and action. We've subtly altered classic tailoring for more movement, for real life. Our jackets do not have a restrictive teenage 'fashion' cut.

HOW TO FIT YOURSELF

Size by your actual body measurements, not copying your size in another brand. Fit can vary wildly between brands and their size may not be ours.

HEIGHT: This is the easy one – measure yourself from the top of your head to your heel. (Sometimes easier to do against a wall we find.)

CHEST: To find out your chest size, take a tape measure and wrap it under your armpits at the fullest part of your chest.

ARM: Measure from the shoulder seam to the bony bit on your wrist (yes, that is the biological term).

measurement guide

Next, compare your measurements with our size chart below to see which Frahm jacket is right for you.

size chart

If you can't measure your chest circumference, the best guide to size is your best fitting existing jacket or suit jacket. Then Live Chat us and we can advise what your size is.

"Tall" sizes are for very tall men, offering exactly the same jacket with significantly longer arms and torso. Don't buy one if you're above average - our standard sizes will fit.

If you have shorter arms, we will happily have your sleeves altered for you when possible (most of the time it is). Please Live Chat or email us to discuss.

The Waterproof Trench Coat won't be made again and we're clearing a few that are left, as we move away from any smart office gear to the outdoors. Ironically we wear ours to splosh through muddy walks, as it's so tough!

Nick's Design Notes: There are two times in life when a waterproof is vital - up a bloody great mountain, alone, as the dark sets in. Or walking from The Tube to that make-or-break board meeting, just the heavens open. I wanted a jacket that protected you in both scenarios. Super tough, but very simple & elegant. This is it.

A smart, true waterproof to complement a suit and tie. We wanted to add greater longevity and a wider range of use too, so it can be taken on country walks and it's ok getting chucked into a pile in the pub.

READ DETAILED WATERPROOF BLOG

Fabric is everything. What strikes you immediately is the beautiful matt finish, unlike most waterproofs that have that nasty plastic crinkle. It has fantastic structure - holding an elegant shape, even when folded or even crushed. It doesn't crease.

It is independently rated an outstanding 20,000 for waterproofing and breathability, rare even for hardcore mountaineering jackets.

There's a lot of thought put into the hood and collar. The hood is buttoned on under the collar and is removable. The crisp collar can be turned upwards if preferred. The hood itself isn't floppy, with a smart button closure across the neck. Italian cord adjusters and leather stops mean you can tighten it in heavy storms and stay smart.

As ever, everything is beautifully detailed, in a simple package. An zipped internal chest pocket maintains clean lines and protect your phone. There are flashes of deep red internal trim. The internal waterproof lining is has contrast waterproofing tape across the seams. A ticket pocket and two elegant hand pockets just where you'd want them.

As ever, we have built a jacket with room to move and room over a suit, and rated 20,000 breathable fabric. The shoulders and hood are pleated for movement and fit, with large rear shoulder vents to dump warm, moist air.

Lastly, the arms offer lots of movement, with more length and scalloped cuffs for extra protection.

Brilliant, beautiful, tough and understated.

Ideal weather range is 1c (room for a thick jumper or suit) to 20c, in all conditions including torrential rain and high winds.

Damn - it's good!

Spotted this Trench winking at me from the Archive and had been looking for a Mac/Trench that would actually repel rain for a while after finding my previous one was pretty much useless. This was the first Frahm product through the door for me and I was a bit nervous about buying small (always bought medium), but it fits a suit or over shirt/sweater underneath and does exactly what I wanted (keep me dry and looking smart at the same time). I also really like the additional styling detail to stand it apart from A N Other trench and I'm looking forward to wearing it more often when the world returns to whatever the normal will be - pub or office - my dog doesn't like the rain anyway. More kit like this and I'll be a regular!!!

As stylish as a raincoat can be....

There is a lot of thoughtful design in Frahm's/Nick's jackets and this is now my fourth for the collection having had one of the original utility jackets (how I'd like a waterproof one of those!). Having had the jacket a month now it has been a worn a few times and while it is a lovely piece, I think it will mainly be kept for rainy days in the office worn over a suit. Things I love about this coat are the shape of the hood, which is brilliant (even for my melon of a head) and fits well, the quality of the material, which is tough and matt in finish, and the trademark scalloped sleeves. All brilliant.
There are just two things that aren't quite right for me personally. The lack of any fastening below the waist means that a bit of wind blows the bottom of the coat open to the waist, which isn't great for weather protection and doesn't look great either. Aesthetically I know it might not have been as desirable, but a bottom button would have solved this and made the coat a lot more versatile. And as with a previous coat, the top button is already coming loose and only sewn on with minimal thread so it doesn't feel at all secure and I'll need to break out my sewing kit to sort it. At the neck/collar fastening I think velcro may have been a more practical choice than a button, which is a little more faff. All in all though, it is a beautifully tactile coat and about as good as it gets for wearing on a wet day to the office and out for grabbing lunch with smart casual clothes. As an all rounder for dog walks etc, I don't think it works quite as well, mainly due to the lack of a bottom fastening to prevent it blowing open and you getting a wet crotch!
I've given five stars as I was fortunate to grab this at a great price, because it is a lovely piece of engineering, and because I think it's important to support small independent British companies. It will certainly get worn for work once we are back into the office and for evenings out if there is rain forecast.
