UPGRADED CLASSIC: 1950'S USAF MA-1 FLIGHT JACKET

The MA-1 was developed by the US Airforce in the 1950s, as a warm, in-flight lightweight cockpit uniform for it's crews. Of many guises in leather, with fure trim, etc, the MA-1 stuck because of it's simplistically and freedom of movement.

As ever, counter cultures adopted the MA-1 as it fell out of use in the military. Skinheads used it as a uniform. That ultra masculine look was adopted and subverted further by gay and punk cultures, of many.

Now, the MA-1 is the predominant bomber design, with it's ribbing at neck, cuffs and hem and lightweight synthetic, lightly insulated body. Still chosen worldwide by men for it's comfort and masculinity, we felt it was 'stuck' in low quality synthetics and needed moving on, without losing what makes it so desired by men for over 70 years.

EVERYTHING UPGRADED

Even expensive bomber jackets use generic synthetic fabrics. Instead, our shell fabric is a water resistant cotton blend from Como in Italy.
The quilted lining is pure cotton brushed flannel, with safety-orange internal pockets.
The insulation is industry leading Primaloft, for greater warmth & longevity, alongside low weight.
Lastly, a jacket is only as strong as it's weakest point. Bombers often fail at the elasticated neck, cuffs and hem. We use the finest stretch cotton rib.

NOTHING UNNECESSARY

We didn't slavishly copy the 1950s USAF MA-1 design. That features many adornments that aren't useful in real life use. We've removed the snap closure flaps on the hand pockets, as these curl and get in the way. There's no arm pocket, as this is rarely if ever used. The ultra-shiny exterior is quietened with cotton, for a more stylish look. Then we added what was missing...

ADDING WHAT WAS MISSING

Where other bomber jackets (if not all designs) is a lack of attention to the interior. Our linings, every detail, are as considered as the exterior. The FRAHM Quilted Bomber has 6 pockets in total:
2 hand pockets lined with brushed cotton.
2 internal zipped chest pockets for a smartphone or two.
2 internal cargo pockets - 1 buttoned book pocket & 1 for keys or another phone (honestly, if you have 3 phones, we may become suspicious).

With chest sizes from 36" to 56".

That means eleven sizes & free sleeve alterations, unique in jacket brands.

Importantly, we take time to tailor exceptional fabrics that drape flatteringly, not suck around the bits you didn't want to accentuate.

WHEN SHOULD I ORDER?

The short answer is always as soon as you can.

We're booking production space and getting fabric made twelve months before they've even been made.

Options gradually run out as we tick down from 12 months ahead to the arrival date.

If you see gaps in the options of colour/size, etc, that's an alarm bell.
