UPGRADED CLASSIC: WWII BRITISH PARATROOPER'S JACKET

British field jackets are smarter than US versions, with crisp lines and big pockets. WWII Paratroops used a particularly fine example that we’ve based ours on, as did Canadian airborne forces.

A field jacket is, for us, the epitome of ‘one jacket to rule them all’. Highly practical, always smart, yet casual enough not to be showy, it can move in all circles.

That’s why our first ever design, the Original Utility Field, made from 2018-2024, was such an important and beloved design.

This is our upgrade of the upgrade, with tougher fabric, bigger patch pockets and new design details like adjustable waist cords and cuffs.

This design is lined for milder Spring/Autumn weather than it's insulated brother, the Waxed Quilted Field Jacket.

SCOTTISH DRY WAXED COTTON

Dundee legends Halley Stevensons, provide the tough, machine washable dry-waxed cotton that is a modernised classic.

Shower resistant and extremely breathable, it weathers beautifully over time.

Then there's the pure cotton brushed flannel lining in our signature red/blue tartan. No shiny synthetic bags thrown in as an afterthought here. Shudder.

EVERY DETAIL, BEAUTIFULLY UPGRADED

Everything is made as fine as it can be. The stainless steel shock-cord adjusters, the molded gunmetal snaps, the pure cotton moleskin that lines the collar, cuffs and hand pockets.

That doesn't even start to cover it. Tiny details others leave off to save money, like twin needle stitching, hem darts, rear shoulder vents...

HUGE STORAGE CAPABILITIES

9 pockets mean you can carry water bottles, food, documents, a family of four (hamsters), or whatever floats your boat.

These pockets are tough. You really can put a bottle of champagne in each main cargo pocket, if that's your thing, and not worry about them failing. We know because we've done it.

We're booking production space and getting fabric made twelve months before they've even been made.

Options gradually run out as we tick down from 12 months ahead to the arrival date.

If you see gaps in the options of colour/size, etc, that's an alarm bell.

Placed an order for a quilted Harrington for later this year as my first ever Frahm, then saw the offer for the Honey Tan Field Jacket and decided to get one early. Fantastic decision as it turns out, couldn’t be happier with the quality and how it looks. Five stars indeed.

This is my 2nd CFJ and it’s even better than my first. Subtle improvements from my first just make this even better.

over sized and underwhelmed.

I have been wearing my new waxed classic Field Jacket for 8 weeks now, and travelled by air, sea and land to the south of Italy and back. The jacket has served well and is superbly well made yet lurking in the compliments are two large HOWEVERS. Firstly I am 6'6" and normaly take an M&S 48 long or 3XL Tall. my field jacket is size 5XL and is only slightly large in chest is short in both body and sleve. Secondly, and more irritatingly, mobility of the arms and shoulders seems to have been sacrificed for the (useful) shoulder vents. If you try riding a bike, reaching for an overhead locker or even doing a field sport it pulls very tight in the armpit. Sorry Nick, although quality workmanship the cut is at best a good town jacket with field pockets that is over sized and has left me underwhelmed.

I'm afraid a 5XL is large in chest but isn't for someone of your height. We do Tall for 6'6' up to 2XL but not 5XL. Mobility in the shoulders and arms is actually increased by the vents, which acts as bellows, along with the pleats, as we think about mobility a great deal. I suspect the 5XL is a bit small for you if you're having that trouble. It sadly looks like we don't do a size for you.
You're always welcome to ask us for advice or if you still find it not right, which is rare after chatting to us, you can return the jacket for a refund, if not worn.
