1. CHOOSING THE RIGHT THERMAL JACKET

BEST FOR FULL ON FREEZING

When choosing a winter jacket it's important to consider WHEN you want to wear it. Is this your only jacket, or are you able to buy for more specificity?

As a guide, for harsh winter conditions, a thermal style such as our Ventile Thermal Field Jacket or Thermal Military Parka were both designed to keep you toasty in harsh winter conditions. The Ventile is officially fully waterproof, but not much gets through the Parka. It'd have to be one hell of an extended downpour...

THE ALL-ROUNDERS

Most British weather in Autumn and Winter is not that harsh. It's mild to cold, windy, showers. This is a potentially frustrating inbetweeny mix. You need a flexible, breathable, lighter option than a full-on thermal... We love these highly practical, pragmatic all-rounders.

For milder weather, a great all-rounder is the Original Utility Field Jacket, designed by us deliberately to offer maximum versatility.

Within the same area is the Woodland Worker's Jacket, which is a bit heavier, thus it's tougher and keeps its smart structure through anything that's thrown at it (except burning oil). Just add a shirt, or jumper.

A new favourite in the office, when testing last Winter, is the luxurious Fleece Utility Field Jacket. It is hard to adequately desribe how soft & comfy it is. Wool is nature's performance fabric, so it has great breadth across cold to freezing conditions, whilst maintaining smartness. If you're between a full-on thermal or a mid-weight Original Utility or Woodland, go with the Fleece. It's great in the rain too, and needs barely any care.

PERFORMANCE FIRST, THEN STYLE

There's no point investing in an autumn winter jacket that doesn't perform, but looked nice on the hanger.

At FRAHM we make sure every jacket we design is fit for purpose, adding in smart design features like the large rear air vents on our Original Utility Field Jacket.

This attention to detail and real-world use, will help keep you comfortable.

Every feature has a purpose.

BUILT LIKE A TANK

When designing, Nick always checks we've thought about "The Chunk". That's that extra toughness that means you can drag your jacket through brambles, that the zips will last longer than you do, that the buttons stay on... Everything is BUILT. GRRR.

He calls it the "Thinking Chunk".

Chunk is also applied to the practical use of touchpoints. Real rubber Japanese zip pulls that you can grab easily, taped-on oversize buttons, oversize RiRi & YKK top-of-range (always) zips, world-leading Cobrax B:Lock snaps. On and on.

The Thermal Military Parka is our epitomy of the CHUNK philosophy. It's an absolute BEAST of a jacket. Everything is beefy, yet, tailored, understated, not overt the top, very very practical. In a THUNDERCHUNK (new word) way.

Add in the peaked hood that's not an afterthought, with 3 cord adjusters for finer fit, the same level of eningeering as the rest of the jacket, if not more, with clear peripheral vision and a stiff visor to keep the snow and rain out.

Beastly.

CARING FOR YOUR JACKET

All of our winter jackets are machine washable, bar the Tundra, which is self-cleaning (maybe dry clean it before putting it away in April!). Why make life difficult?

All care instructions are embroidered (no cheap flappy labels) into the inside of each jacket in plain English.

Your jacket is designed to be easy to care for, for generations. We offer a lifetime gurantee on faults.

All our jackets are made in the EU from purely British or EU sourced fabrics & materials, apart from those Japanese zip-pulls.

CARING FOR YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

Our jackets are built tough and beautiful. But sometimes life can be tougher than it is beautiful. We care about that too. We all go through tough times.

£10 from the jacket you buy goes to CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) to support their life saving work against suicide.

Your jacket also comes with a unique embroidered certificate of authenticity and a mental heath message, created by artist Jamie Gallagher and designers Supple Studio.

Jackets don't matter in the grand scheme of things. People DO.
