UPGRADED CLASSIC: WWII USAF B-9 FLIGHT PARKA

Parkas originate from Inuit communities, for survival in extreme conditions.

Adopted by US armed forces in WWII, this style was used by the airforce, flying at high altitude or working in freezing conditions.

We've improved the exterior fabric, removed the fur on the hood (which is cruel and personally drives us crazy getting in our eyes!), upgraded the pocket capacity and the construction.

It's also a damned sight warmer than what was available in WWII! Technology eh...

RIPSTOP: IT STOPS RIPS

Developed for parachutes, when rips can be fatal, ripstop fabric is a mesh of squares that keeps a hole where it is. Handy for base jumping, walking through undergrowth, or feeding hedgehogs.

Linings seem to be an afterthought, but are equally as important to us as the exterior.

Here we use pure brushed cotton Chambray (think ultra light denim) for comfort, warmth and longevity. And more pockets, of course.

SUPERB 'SNORKEL' HOOD

First, its quilted, so you don't need, or indeed want that fur.

Next up, peripheral vision is a huge thing for us - it's great to see where you're going.

Add 3 shock-cord adjusters, a storm peak and high jawline, and you can hide in there. Lovely.

Best jacked so far, love it!

My Thermal RipStone jacket is my fifth Jacket from Frahm and I have to say I love it. Wonderful fit, quality feel to it and super warm! Not sure what to have next.

Great jacket for fall/winter/spring!

I love this jacket - the fit and finish are first class. I was a little concerned about the “showerproof” label, as our weather where I live (4000 ft in Northern California) is either rain or snow in the fall/winter/spring. I would love an insulated eVent field jacket - but that option is as yet not available - so this was the next best choice. (When I’m rich and famous I’ll try the ventile thermal field jacket!) To my surprise, the first outing in 30 minutes of steady light rain was no problem. My second outing was in a much harder rain for about 20 minutes. Still good! Light snow showers were no problem. I just started to feel a little damp after a pretty long walk in rainy snow slush - but I expected that after the light rain honestly - so all good!

My next concern was size - as I have found that UK sizing is a little different than that in the US. I used their size helper and went with what I usually order - which in this case was a large - and it fits perfectly (6’0” - 180 lbs). Love all of the pockets, and the connected hood is actually what I wanted, as zipping up the jacket closes the hood. No fiddling with snaps and such to get the hood closed! The feel of this jacket is quality/cozy/comfortable - a definite keeper.

Frahm number 4 for me and this is my favourite - it’s the nicest and warmest jacket I have ever owned - it fits great, the lining is great, the material feels great, and it looks really smart. The magicians at Frahm have done it again!

What a jacket this is.

This might be my favourite Frahm jacket I've bought, I absolutely love it. it is so comfy and warm. The quality is top level as per usual, and the fit is fantastic

I have never been disappointed by a purchase yet and this is my 7th Frahm purchase.

Surprisingly good

Not sure why I used the word “surprisingly” but for some reason I had quite low expectations of this - I’d seen it as a lower end military parka. I already had the ripstop puffer, and far too many other Frahms. This is one I’d never really considered but the archive price point combined with a £50 “research” discount made it a no brainer.

I couldn’t have been more wrong and it’s already up there as one of my favourites. Extremely warm, the best hood ever and just looks great. Fits like a dream, and can’t fault it at all.
