UPGRADED CLASSIC: 1950s USAF N-3B 'SNORKEL' PARKA

The first parkas were developed by Caribou Inuits, to hunt and survive in freezing Canadian winters. The US Airforce then developed the parka for crews in extreme cold.

The original N-3B had a nylon outer, wool insulation and mouton lining - treated sheepskin, topped off with a fur hood lining. Whilst incredibly warm, they were very heavy and impractical for a wide range of use.

Into the modern era, parkas are mostly a sandwich of synthetic fabrics with down insulation. In our opinion, these choices aren't logical. The exterior fabrics tend to be fragile and cheap. The synthetic lining an afterthought. The down insulation and fur are cruel, hard to care for and degrades quickly.

Instead we've rethought the construction for a far tougher, quietly luxurious and practical jacket. It is beloved by our customers and unique amongst all jackets, worldwide.

UNIQUELY TOUGH & LUXURIOUS FABRICS

An antidote to expensive yet fragile shiny plastic parkas that spill their guts at the sight of a rusty nail, the Thermal Military Parka is 'Built Like A Tank' as owners of this design often remark. Heavy twill dry-waxed (washable) cotton from British Millerain of Rochdale, is so tyough you can literally drag this jacket through brambles if you're so inclined). Normally linings are a synthetic afterthought - not at FRAHM, where every detail is vital. We offer a quilted herringbone brushed cotton cashmere wool blend, for even greater style, warmth & comfort.

FINEST POSSIBLE CLOSURES

Everything on this parka are the toughest and best available.
Italian Cobrax B:Lock snaps are used by special forces worldwide, for their precision and bombproof reliability.
Oversized taped-on military slot buttons can't unwind.
YKK Aquaguard oversized zips don't fail and are easily utilised via Shimada rubber zip pulls. This is a long coat -we've even provided stainless steel burst snap gussets at the hem, in case you sit down too fast.

UNIQUELY DETAILED HOOD

Hoods should be the central point of parka design, not something to tick off. We dispensed with the fur - cruel and annoying, and upgraded the quilting with a pure flannel lining. You can't see anything that isn't right in front of you with a 'snorkel'. We created complete peripheral vision, so you don't have to pull the hood away to see left or right, whilst increasing protection with an integrated peak. The hood is adjusted by three shock-cords, via stainless steel barrel adjusters.

We're booking production space and getting fabric made twelve months before they've even been made.

Options gradually run out as we tick down from 12 months ahead to the arrival date.

If you see gaps in the options of colour/size, etc, that's an alarm bell.

Couldn’t resist

I’ve been looking longingly at this jacket for a long time. When it came up at a reduced price it was unavoidable. Now I have it, I wish I’d bought it at full price, it’s a thing of wonder and delight. Without doubt I got an absolute bargain, and also without doubt this is the finest jacket I’ve ever owned. It’s my 3rd Frahm jacket with a 4th on the way, they are fabulous things

If Carlsberg made jackets then this would be it but thank god Frahm made this jacket and it is the best in the world.

I had always resisted the urge to get the Parka having already purchased the Ventile Thermal and waterproof. How could I possibly need another FRAHM. But I admit I was wrong, I love the weight, warmth and length of the Parka and luckily its arrival coincided with a cold snap in the South. I was worried about the weight but actually fine on reasonably strenuous dog walks.
