CLASSIC UPGRADED: 1952 EVEREST MOUNTAINEERING JACKET

Ventile is the original performance fabric, and remains unique for it’s rich history and natural performance properties.

In WWII, Allied pilots were ditching in the North Sea, only to die of exposure before they could be rescued. Churchill himself demanded life-saving suits be created.

British scientists didn’t have access to synthetics, so they found a way to weave cotton so tightly, water tension itself prevented ingress, making a natural fabric waterproof that is, literally by nature, incredibly breathable.

In 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of Everest for the first time in a Ventile suits. Extraordinary.

NATURAL WINTER COMFORT

Pure cotton, very water-resistant Ventile is rarely used in Winter jackets, as current trends focus on cheaper synthetic exterior.

However we chose it for our top of range jacket, because it is so different. It's quiet and smart, not ‘ shiny performance’.

Synthetics have higher waterproof ratings, yet this has untouchable comfort and breathability.

It’s also a great story to tell, on a freezing Sunday walk with friends.

SOFT COTTON QUILTING

Linings are too often an after-thought on other jackets. Here, we use a brushed flannel cotton cashmere blend, for incredible warmth, comfort and softness.

The Ventile and cotton cashmere is the sandwich with a recycled Primaloft Gold insulation. We don't use feather down at FRAHM, as it is cruel, degrades and is impractical. Primaloft reduces volume, for a smarter jacket, that can be machine washed.

PRACTICAL SMARTNESS

This is a beautifully smart, tough and quietly practical jacket that can carry stuff for business travel to wintery Chicago, a Pennines hike, or a long day of meetings in London.

The 4 front field-configuration cargo pockets can carry a huge amount, without looking over-stuffed. There's pure cotton moleskin lined hand pockets, and even 3 internal pockets.

With chest sizes from 36" to 56".

That means eleven sizes & free sleeve alterations, unique in jacket brands.

Importantly, we take time to tailor exceptional fabrics that drape flatteringly, not suck around the bits you didn't want to accentuate.

We're booking production space and getting fabric made twelve months before they've even been made.

Options gradually run out as we tick down from 12 months ahead to the arrival date.

If you see gaps in the options of colour/size, etc, that's an alarm bell.

Exceptional Jacket

I love a good jacket - much to my wife’s annoyance :-) This is my first Frahm, it’s supposed to keep you warm and it does - it’s cosy and comforting in the cold weather - today I got to wear it in the rain, it was as good as they say, the Ventile fabric giving great protection. Thank you Team Frahm, I love it.

Jacket no 4 and it's excellent! So well made and a really good fit. Certainly warm but I haven't tested how rain-proof it is yet but here's hoping!! Love the large pockets!

Ventile Thermal Field Jacket.

This jacket is like a breathable suit of armour, actually quite unbelievable in how it breathes so well. So far, I haven’t overheated on my walks, this magical jacket just seeming to be at the right temperature all the time. I run cold, so still have to wear a jumper when at a more sedentary pace (i.e. shopping etc), when the outside temperature is only at a few degrees. What I haven’t been able to do yet is wear it in the rain, but I’m sure I’ll get the chance in the next couple of weeks.
I am very happy to be part of the Frahm family and looking forward to many years of use. Congratulations to Nick and the whole team, love your style.

Bomb proof

I had beed eyeing up this jacket for 18 months while purchasing other Frahm stuff.
Finally took the plunge in the Archives sales.
I have to say its the best jacket ever, and i used to be involved in jacket production, so when i say it’s quality it is the dogs .
It is soo well constructed it stands up on its own, really it does.
Feels like i could run through woods, hedges and jungle and it would still look good enough to wear down the pub. Fit, pockets, extra bits feels like it was made with love and care. And will probably see me off the planet, but not before i buy a few more jackets.
