CARE

CLASSIC UPGRADED: 1952 EVEREST MOUNTAINEERING JACKET

Ventile is the original performance fabric, and remains unique for it’s rich history and natural performance properties.

In WWII, Allied pilots were ditching in the North Sea, only to die of exposure before they could be rescued. Churchill himself demanded life-saving suits be created.

British scientists didn’t have access to synthetics, so they found a way to weave cotton so tightly, water tension itself prevented ingress, making a natural fabric waterproof that is, literally by nature, incredibly breathable.

In 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of Everest for the first time in a Ventile suits. Extraordinary.

INTENSE QUALITY & DETAIL, QUIETLY SPOKEN

This is an investment jacket for men that don't want to shout 'look at my money'. This is quiet, unpretentious luxury, that lasts - embodied by naturally waterproof Ventile cotton, that takes the plastic shine & 'bling' out of an exceptional Winter jacket.
This is a jacket to wear anywhere, from Arrivals at Chicago O'Hare in deep Winter, to a hilltop in Derbyshire.
Everything is the best - from the Cobrax B:Lock snaps, to the huge envelope configuration cargo pockets. Minute details, worn lightly.
If you know quality, you'll have kittens.

SUB-ZERO COTTON CASHMERE QUILTING

We pay as much attention to the lining as the exterior. No flimsy synthetic satin after-thoughts at FRAHM.
Instead, we've lined the Ventile with soft brushed herringbone cotton cashmere, for warmth, comfort, breathability and temperature control.
We refuse to use down, just because it's what most folks expect. Some traditions aren't worth holding onto. Bird down is cruel, it clumps, degrades and isn''t easy to care for. Plus, it makes a very big, round jacket! We want to build sharp lined, masculine jackets.
Instead we use low-volume, highest grade 100% recycled Primaloft Gold, which doesn't change with wear or washing in your machine (convenient).

REMARKABLY DETAILED & REMOVABLE HOOD

Most hoods are pretty simple, often rather geeky and certainly frustrating to use. Crossing the road becomes an exercise in neck twisting. So we built in peripheral vision, whilst increasing coverage via the storm peak.
The hood won't flop around, due to the Ventile fabric and proper quilting.
Next (phew), there are three stainless steel barrel adjusters for shock-cords to exactly adjust your fit.
The jawline front can be adjusted to be close, or further away for those who like more room for beards/scarves/cake.
Lastly, the hood is removable. Rather than use the normal method of packing a weedy little temporary hood into the neck, this hood is unzipped, if you fancy wearing this jacket more smartly. You can even fold the half zip left into it's dock, leaving a flat collar, with no sign of a hood. Every single detail...

No problem. No explanation needed. Pre-orders can be cancelled any time. You get 90 days once you've got your FRAHM.

WE DON'T STACK IT HIGH, OR SELL IT CHEAP

Nothing exceptional was ever easy.

Great jackets don't sit on dusty shelves with half price tickets on.

We choose to be slow & expensive, to carefully build an extraordinary reputation for doing what we promised we would.

Our singular concentration on long term reputation, not weekly sales targets, means you get a far better jacket.

WHY PRE-ORDER?

NO DISTRACTIONS

FRAHM is focussed on doing one thing really well - we upgrade classic men's jackets styles. That's it.

We make each design once a year. Each one is spread across the calendar. We're not distracted by the constant pressure to create new fashion ranges every six months.

After we've delivered that year's edition to our customers, we re-launch the next year's edition.

WHEN SHOULD I ORDER?

The short answer is always as soon as you can.

We're booking production space and getting fabric made twelve months before they've even been made.

Options gradually run out as we tick down from 12 months ahead to the arrival date.

If you see gaps in the options of colour/size, etc, that's an alarm bell.

WHY IS EVERYTHING 20% OFF?

That 20% discount doesn't mean we're in a Sale. We don't do them. We don't overbuy! That's your pre-order reward.

You help us, we help you. Fair.

If there's any stock left, or rare returns, they are at full price.

Pricey but worth it

I’ve bought a few nice pieces of clothing before but bar my wedding outfit this is the most expensive item I’ve purchased (even with discount). I had my doubts about the value but from first unpacking through to multiple wears in all weathers it’s a stunner.
Just so well thought out and formal enough to wear in the city and casual enough to look good on a country dog walk too.
Like a modern but better built Barbour, it’s practical but a bit posh too. Worth it if you want to treat yourself!

Exquisite Workmanship

I have many FRAHM jackets, I have a 2021 Ventile Field Jacket. They are all rather outstanding in both fit and quality. I have just purchased this 2024 Ventile Field Jacket and it yet another success. I think the magnet collar closure is genius. All FRAHM jackets should have this. With FRAHM you get what you pay for, this jacket is supreme quality. I can’t fault it in any way. The customer service is also top class, in all - a superb business all round.

Amazing jacket

This is my third and new favourite Frank jacket.
It’s also the one that makes me realise I’m between sizes. Despite my measurements solidly recommending Large, this is XL and a far better fit than my L Harrington and utility field jackets. The sleeves are longer, so jumpers don’t poke out, and I can comfortably wear layers and still be able to zip it up.
It’s cold in the uk now, and this jacket is perfect. Toasty warm, stylish and a hood that, once adjusted (and I’m still not sure I’ve got it 100%right) keeps your head warm while still being able to see.
Main pockets take a bit of getting used to as there is an extra flap that I guess helps with the waterproofing but stops you sliding things up to drop them in the pocket, but I soon got used to that.
The only downside is that if we have a nice summer I’ll have a few months when I’ll not be able to wear it!

Simply Exceptional 😎

Only 5 stars I hear you say, I agree it’s easily 10 stars. It really is that good, I’ve been wearing it for a few weeks now and I absolutely love this coat, it makes me smile every time I put it on, its like getting a great big friendly hug every time.

I rarely leave reviews but i simply have to given how exceptional this coat is. For anyone wondering whether it’s worth the wait and price as I did, I can assure you it is and you really should order yours today.

And then there is Frahm’s company ethos and support for thecalmzone.net simply first class, absolutely superb. For this stance alone and promoting awareness of CALM Frahm has my full support, I can not rate what Nick and the team have achieved highly enough - Thank you and so very much more.

A solid winter jacket

It's a lovely jacket - very solid and well made, with great features and a really well fitting hood. I like the fact that the hood can be removed (and, sshhhhh.... I think it does look cooler without the hood...)
I'm just under 6'2" with a 43" chest and fairly broad shoulders and the XL is a great fit all round. For me the sleeves are just the right length, and there's enough space across the shoulders to wear a t-shirt and a shirt or jumper underneath.
The big pockets work well, I went for a walk with my travel mug of coffee and it fitted in fine, so I didn't need a little rucksack. Very handy.
Being cotton it's warm and windproof without being sweaty like hardshells often are. I probably wouldn't climb a mountain in it unless it was properly freezing, as I'd overheat, but for dog walks, bird surveys and day to day out and about in the west of Scotland, it's ideal.
I haven't been in heavy rain in it yet, but based on my old Ventile jacket I imagine it will be fine. In my experience Ventile soaks up some water, then the fibres expand, which makes it watertight. It also makes it go a bit stiff like cardboard and less breathable (but then all waterproofs are less breathable once they wet out). I now use my old Ventile jacket for outdoor work as the material is absolutely bombproof.
All in all - nice job Frahm. I'm sure this is a jacket that will last me for many years.

Ventile thermal

Stunning jacket and large fitted me perfectly, I’ve tried outside in cold conditions and it seemed toasty enough, not tried in full rain yet but the rain I had literally beaded off it, can’t wait to grow old together with it 👌
