UPGRADED CLASSIC: WWII M-43 US ARMY FIELD JACKET

The iconic M-43 field jacket, standard issue for US Army troops in WWII, was chosen for its versatile comfort in mixed conditions, including rain. It was used as an exterior shell, with layers underneath, in Winter.

However, whilst its pockets were really useful, it wasn't waterproof and the jacket would look really tatty, fast.

To our amazement, we couldn’t find a modern waterproof field jacket. Waterproofs seem narrowly focused on hiking or skiing, without thought for our diverse busy lives, or smartness.

Thus, in 2020 we launched our most versatile style, that can be worn anywhere - smart or muddy, that works and carries.

REALLY TOUGH, ALWAYS SMART

eVent, the kings of waterproof breathability, created this tough, 20,000 rated fabric for us.

The textured matte finish that's impossible to crease, makes it smart for office and low key for long hikes.

REMOVABLE HOOD

Choosing one jacket to cover everything? Get this.

That means we've given it a removable hood, for swish dates and smart board meetings.

The hood itself is highly shock-cord adjustable, and we've even created a channel to hide the half-zip left when it is removed. We think of everything, if we may be so bold.

With chest sizes from 36" to 56".

That means eleven sizes & free sleeve alterations, unique in jacket brands.

Importantly, we take time to tailor exceptional fabrics that drape flatteringly, not suck around the bits you didn't want to accentuate.

WHEN SHOULD I ORDER?

The short answer is always as soon as you can.

We're booking production space and getting fabric made twelve months before they've even been made.

Options gradually run out as we tick down from 12 months ahead to the arrival date.

If you see gaps in the options of colour/size, etc, that's an alarm bell.

Another superb jacket

This is my fourth Frahm Jacket and is excellent quality, feel, and fit as always.
The quality of materials is evident as soon as you pick the jacket up. Lots of pockets and a really nice fitting removable hood make this a really versatile utility jacket . As far as performance I've not had chance to test it yet, but i'm looking forward to some rain

Is I too versatile?

Another really useful jacket from Frahm - a waterproof material that also looks and feels superb, cut and tailored into a smart field jacket that can be worn on many occasions and across a wide temperature range.

FRAHM Waterproof Utility Field Jacket (Olive Green) – A Welshman's Weakness

Look, I’ll admit it: I’ve got more FRAHM jackets than one man strictly needs. And my office rail is starting to look like Nick's. So naturally, when the Waterproof Utility Field Jacket came out, I was straight in and ordered a Large, just as I always do, but this time in Olive Green.

Now, here’s the twist: the sleeves on the "Large" were a touch short for my liking, and not like my other FRAHM jackets. Not disastrously so, but enough that I wasn't 100% happy and started pondering what might happen in the rain, and here in Pembrokeshire, we don't do vertical rain. This isn’t a fashion statement, it’s meant to do a job.

So, I contacted FRAHM customer services via email and 'spoke' with Leonie from FRAHM, who helped me painlessly swap for a “Large Tall”, and I must say, I’m far more comfortable knowing my wrists aren’t exposed to the elements. So, one happy FRAHM customer ... again.

The jacket itself? Built like a tank, elegant and reassuringly over-engineered, very much in line with FRAHM’s usual standards: stitching, hardware, finish, all spot-on.

Can’t wait to give it a proper Welsh weather trial — only problem is, we’ve had a suspiciously dry spell. Typical.

So yes, another FRAHM in the wardrobe. I probably need help. But I’ll look fantastic while seeking it.

Waterproof wanderlust

Another great jacket from Frahm, I went gor the lovely Olive green, actually more of a deal green than Olive, gorgeous colour. So that's the colour dealt with. The matt material is very plush to the touch and as others have stated kind of a brushed cotton. Love the magnetic closures on the cargo pockets just the right strength to open one handed and close with a pleasing clunk. The zipped exterior pocket will swallow my very large Samsung galaxy Ultra with ease and that's one big phone. The jacket hangs on your torso really well and moves with you rather than against and has just the right weight to make it feel quality. Again looks very different to the trashcan big name makes out there which is a very good thing. Another 5 star rating from me. Now I feel I can wander anywhere without fear of getting wet.
